This auction will feature an important collection
of late 1800s Persian wool rugs; this collection comes from a prominent Oxford
England Estate. When the family estate
was sold in the 1950s, these rugs were handed down to their son who lived in
London. He was well known English artist
and had used them in various rooms in his estate. Some went straight to his attic in the 50s
where they were left un touched. These came to Canada through a very close
friend of the artist who was the executer of the family estate & inherited
many of the family’s heirlooms. Rugs this early rarely show on the market. Don’t miss this opportunity! These rugs have
great character & are prime examples of a timeless art form.

Artist bio:
born in Guelph, Ontario, in 1905. He was a practising artist during the 1930's
when The Group of Seven had widespread influence on Canadian artists and
painting. He joined the Second World War as an artist-soldier. After the war,
he became a professional portraitist, fulfilling commissions from heads of
government, industry, and academia. He passed in 1972.
